SALARY/BENEFITS: $27.00 per hour, benefits/medical (Kaiser) and other voluntary benefits
This position provides a full range of direct services to survivors of domestic violence in our emergency shelter. This position will work with other Case Managers, when client issues arise, to mediate and resolve problems with residential clients. This will require administrative tasks in reviewing and maintaining a caseload of clients. Position will also have a keen focus on connecting clients and families to supportive services and community resources, including but not limited to Housing, Employment, Medical and Mental Health, among others. Principal duties are performed in the field and in a general office environment.
- Conduct eligibility assessments and intakes according to contract requirements.
- Provide culturally appropriate advocacy, case management, and crisis counseling services for a
case load of domestic violence survivors and their families using trauma-informed practices.
- Utilize client-centered needs assessments, service plans and motivational interviewing to empower and motivate clients toward achieving goals related to housing, childcare, employment, benefits, legal services and other needs.
- Monitor clients for progress and review eligibility criteria for ongoing participation in the program.
- Provide education on budgeting techniques, employment preparation, and other life skills to clients individually or in a group setting as assigned.
- Link families to other services such as job training, credit counseling, Cal Fresh, or similar services in a manner that promotes engagement.
- Assist clients in locating and determining appropriateness of housing options.
- Provide safety planning and supportive peer counseling.
- Act as an advocate for client(s) across other systems such as CPS, housing, public benefits, etc.
- Complete required documentation and enter data into client database in an accurate and timely manner.
- Handle case assignments, draft safety plans, review case progress and close out cases upon client exit.
- Meet regularly with clients to provide support and assess progress while ensuring client satisfaction.
- Provide direct client services: intakes, individual counseling, case management, assessments, advocacy, accompaniment, and emergency transportation (using program vehicle).
- Conduct new client screenings by reviewing the application and interviewing the client. Provide orientation to new clients/families.
- Facilitate weekly mental health groups as well as financial, parenting and crafts support groups for clients.
- Documents necessary information as required within the program in a timely manner. Maintain accurate data systems.
- Demonstrates an understanding of confidentiality policies. Utilizes clinical supervision in any case where these issues are in question.
- Assist with handling client issues using problem solving, de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques.
- Maximize usage of internal agreements with our mental health services partners on site, as well as to other service providers, ensuring client participation in supportive services is at a maximum level.
- Evaluate and research client resources for quality and fit with meeting client needs.
- Maintain good working relationships with support networks and resource providers.
- Answer crisis-line: telephone counseling, screening for shelter, information and referrals.
- Facilitate resident meetings and support groups.
- Maintain and compile client records, including crisis line forms, individual case files, daily log and service statistics in an accurate and timely manner.
- Participate in regular staff meetings: Community Time, In-Services, Case Management, program development.
- Represent Riley Center in community activities as needed.
- Assist Volunteer Coordinator in training and supervising volunteers as needed.
- Share residential shelter management duties: laundry, clean/set up rooms, donations, food shopping, basic maintenance, chore checks, etc.
- Participate in on-going cross training and appropriate staff development to perform duties in other departments of the agency as needed.
- Perform other appropriate duties as assigned.
- BA degree in behavioral sciences, social services, psychology or other related field is preferred. Equivalent work experience acceptable in lieu of degree.
- Three years of experience working with survivors of domestic violence or related field in nonprofit sector, social service or direct services.
- 40 hour DV Certification required. Proof of certification will be required. May take training after hire if needed.
- Excellent written and oral English communication skills. Ability to read English. Bilingual Spanish desirable.
- Excellent time management skills. Ability to plan, prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Ability to assist clients with resolving problems and mediate issues when needed.
- Ability to organize and manage files, schedules, dates and information.
- Excellent accuracy in documentation, data entry and reporting.
- Ability to document notes and write legibly.
- Familiarity with the philosophy and approach of Harm Reduction, Motivational Interviewing and OARS.
- Understanding of domestic violence issues, especially in context to race, class, gender, and sexual identity.
- Understanding of confidentiality and privilege laws.
- Working knowledge of community resources in San Francisco.
- Demonstrated commitment to open, direct, and non-violent communication.
- Ability to de-escalate crisis situations and make decisions under pressure.
- Basic reporting skills including data entry, Outlook, Excel and Word processing.
- Ability to be self-directed and work independently without supervision. Able to work on a team, collaboratively, when necessary.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients, volunteers and staff.
- Ability to be empathetic and supportive when mentoring clients.
