JOB TITLE: Housing Specialist
CLASSIFICATION: Full-time, Non-exempt, OPEIU union
LOCATION: 525 – 5th Street, San Francisco, CA
SUPERVISOR: Supportive Services Supervisor
SALARY/BENEFITS: $20 per hour, benefits full medical (Kaiser), voluntary dental/vision
SUMMARY:
The Housing Specialist will locate housing resources and provide direct client services. The Housing Specialist will promote clients self-sufficiency and permanency into housing. This will require administrative tasks in reviewing and maintaining a caseload of clients. Principal duties are performed in the field and in a general office environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop plan for obtaining housing including financial and self-sufficiency case management plan with clients by performing intake to determine client’s goals, needs and eligibility.
- Create, develop and maintain informational resources for clients, including current housing listings.
- Seek, develop and build relationships with property managers and community agencies to support clients.
- Provide information and referral assistance regarding available support from social service and/or community resources (i.e. GA, SSl, SF Start).
- Assist clients in developing a personal budget through budget counseling and education.
- Assess and identify client strengths and barriers to housing stability and link them to appropriate resources and services.
- Maintain current knowledge of residential lease and rental contracts and educate clients on rights and responsibilities.
- Facilitate support groups.
- Organize and maintain files on each client.
- Maintain accurate daily records using ETO database. Collect and report data as required.
- Provide follow-up home visits to ensure stability and progress in self-sufficiency including support, advocacy and problem solving. Identify resources to assist with success and integration into the community.
- Escort as necessary for housing searches and relevant social service appointments.
- Provide written and verbal translation as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BA/BS in Human Services or related field or a minimum of a two year degree with two years of related experience required.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills. Spanish speaking desired.
- Demonstrated knowledge of community resources and social service agencies.
- Demonstrated commitment to open, direct, and non-violent communication.
- Strong reporting skills including data entry, Excel and Word processing.
- Detail oriented and organized.
- Adaptability and creative problem solving.
- Knowledge in tenant rights and strength based case management.
- Comfort working around a diverse community including LGBTQQ and varying ethnicities.
- Strong initiative and ability to work both independently and cooperatively.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and work collaboratively with clients, volunteers and staff.
