Kitchen Manager

JOB TITLE: Kitchen Manager/Chef
SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., 3 days minimum
LOCATION: Wellness Center 1175 Howard St. San Francisco
SUPERVISOR: Kathy Curran, Program Director
SALARY: $13 per hour, part-time, 19 hours per week
CLASS: Non-exempt/union
BENEFITS: Pro-rated vacation, sick, holidays

Current Food Sources: San Francisco Food Bank, Harvest Urban Market and Food Runners

Summary: The Kitchen Manager/Chef is responsible for planning and preparing two nutritious snacks and one vegetarian luncheon meal Monday through Friday. This position manages and tracks delivery of food donations.  Meals are planned around these donations. They will be responsible for training and guiding kitchen volunteers and must have complete understanding of kitchen cleanliness and meal safety.

Responsibilities:

  • Sort clean and store food donations as they are received.
  • Plan daily menus around donations received and food available at the Food Bank.
  • Use the Ornish Spectrum Program as a meal guideline.
  • Maintain kitchen and storage space cleanliness.
  • Follow San Francisco’s recycling guidelines for waste management.
  • Train and guide kitchen volunteers with regard to food preparation, kitchen safety, cleanliness and food safety guidelines.
  • With Wellness Staff develop a plan to enhance donations, volunteers and funding.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • AA degree or 2 years equivalent experience.
  • Must hold a certificate of completion in kitchen cleanliness and safety as well as safe food handling.
  • Ability to prepare nutritious menus from unplanned donations for 15 to 25 persons daily.
  • Ability to teach and guide volunteers in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Ability to reach out to the community in order to develop the kitchen operation.
  • Ability to work with community partners and funders by relaying our philosophy and providing opportunities for involvement.
  • Strong initiative and ability to work independently and cooperatively.
  • Must maintain professional boundaries with participants, volunteers and staff.
  • Must have a TB clearance.
