Accountant
The Accountant is responsible for:
Ø Monthly reconciliation of all Balance Sheet Accounts and collaborating with key staff in resolving and analyzing variances
Ø Monthly donor database /revenue reconciliations and resolving variances, if any
Ø Monthly journal entries (including, but not limited to) depreciation, prepaid expense, expense allocations and general cash deposits and intra-company cash transfer transactions
Ø Weekly analysis and approval of Accounts Payable invoices and correcting/classifying account codes as deemed necessary
Ø Regular monitoring of fixed assets including reclassification, analysis of acquisitions and asset retirements, as well as journal entry adjustments
Ø Review journal entries and reconciliations prepared by other staff members, effecting corrections when necessary
Ø Maintain Journal Entry, Cash Receipt and Accounts Payable files for the Finance Department
Ø Monthly preparation of documentations required by contract funders for expense reimbursement
Ø Annual preparation of various audit schedules and work papers
Ø Annual preparation of business property statements, welfare exemptions, and property taxes
Ø Prepare unclaimed wages/escheats as needed
Ø Manage and document usage, purchase, and distribution of gift cards, as well as reconciling the account on a monthly basis
Ø Assist the Controller in analyzing account variances at month end close or as necessary
Ø Special projects, as assigned from time to time
Desired Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess personal initiative and work collaboratively as a member of a diverse, multi-cultural team. The individual must be professional, organized and have strong attention to detail. The position requires flexibility, self-motivation and dependability.
Requirements:
Ø Minimum of 3-5 years progressively responsible accounting experience, preferably in a not-for-profit organization.
Ø Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Significant relevant work experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
Ø Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and The Financial Edge accounting software.
Ø Ability to complete work within required deadlines.
Ø Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Ø Ability to work independently and also contribute and collaborate as a team member.
Ø Average data entry speed and accuracy.
